The Clarke County Development Corporation recently published its updated Economic Dashboard showing the year-to-year economic changes for Clarke County and Osceola. From population numbers to employment and taxable retail sales, the dashboard offers a snapshot of the progress being seen in the area – by the numbers.

On top of nation-wide unemployment number drops, some of the most significant changes in Clarke County and Osceola over the past 18-24 months has been seen in taxable retail sales and housing development permits – both significant signs of positive growth. The uptick in taxable retail sales and the tremendous boom in housing development permits indicate a strong economic future for the community.

Whether spurred on through the CCDC Free Land Incentive program or just through workforce demand, the City of Osceola has gone from a single housing permit approved in 2016 to an excess of 50 permits in 2017. And Bill Trickey, Executive Director of the Clarke County Development Corporation (CCDC), is in discussions with a potential developer looking to add another 30 or more units to the area. From single-family houses to condos and more, the options for home-ownership in the area are growing.

Most communities don’t see jumps in housing like that from year-to-year,” Trickey stated. “But with the demand from local businesses and workforce on the rise on top of non-farm job growth, we’re thrilled with the jump.”

With businesses throughout Clarke County and Osceola focusing on development and growth in 2018, the need for housing for a growing workforce is on the increase. With over 50 new units going up and the CCDC land program in place, the pickings will be ripe for employers needing relocation options as well as for local families looking at upgrade options close to home and work.

As the incentives continue to attract builders and businesses continue to grow, the demand for more housing will persist. 2018 looks to be another promising year for housing development in Clarke County and Osceola.
