School is out, the temperatures are rising, and summer is in full swing! Summer in Osceola brings a lot of fun to the city, including baseball games, fair time, fishing, camping, and family fun. But one event that tops the list of activities for most families – the chance to swim and play at one of the area’s finest aquatic centers – at no cost – for Swim With Fern Mondays!

fern underwood osceola iowa free swim night swim with fernFern Underwood’s Free Swim Night started a few years back when Ms. Underwood, Osceola’s patron saint of family fun, decided to reserve one night of every week of the summer to make it possible for all kids and families to swim at the Osceola Aquatic Center. Fern’s goal was to give the community the gift of fun and fitness, no matter the financial circumstances, for anyone who wanted to swim.

So, working with Bill Trickey, Executive Director of Clarke County Development Corporation (CCDC), a grant was provided to allow one night, Mondays, of every week of the summer to be open to all who wanted to participate.
