clarke county courthouseIn response to the immediate threat of the COVID Pandemic, the Clarke County Board of Supervisors implemented several temporary safety measures in accordance with the Governor’s Proclamation involving Social Distancing and Building Capacity guidelines. From the outset, the County has pursued the dual goals of reducing exposure and providing as many public services as possible. As such, the Clarke County Courthouse has been locked to the public and has been providing in-person services by appointment. Offices have been operating as normal and remotely (U.S. mail, phone, email) whenever possible. While the COVID virus is still active, and transmission remains a matter of serious concern, the Clarke County Board of Supervisors have decided to open the Courthouse to the public on Monday, July 6, 2020.

With some limited exceptions, County departments will be available for in-person service during regular business hours, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. During this time, several steps will be taken in an attempt to reduce the possibility of spreading the virus.

  1. Where it remains reasonable to do so, County Offices may continue attempts to schedule in-person contact by appointment. Appointments will be required for driver’s license (641-3432-3311) and passports (641-342-3313). People are encouraged to call ahead for Court-related services (641-342-6096).
  2. A drop box will remain available and remote/electronic service delivery (email, fax, online, phone, etc.) will continue to be encouraged by all County Offices.
  3. All Courthouse staff will make enhanced efforts related to cleaning and disinfecting (including after hours for UV disinfection).
  4. Courthouse staff and members of the public will be screened prior to entry and encouraged to use personal protective equipment and engage in more frequent hand washing. Masks will be required.
  5. Courthouse staff and members of the public will be encouraged to maintain proper social distancing measures within the Courthouse.
  6. Courthouse staff will attempt to limit the overall capacity of the Courthouse and to discourage the assembly of groups of people within the Courthouse.

The Clarke County Board of Supervisors appreciates everyone’s flexibility, cooperation, and understanding throughout this epidemic. Diligence in preventing the spread of this virus is greatly appreciated. As we move forward with opening Courthouse operations, the Clarke County Board of Supervisors will continue to evaluate these matters.
