After what seemed like weeks of updates to the reservation application and its integration, Clarke County Public Health is happy to announce the Clarke County bike share program, located on the east side of the Clarke County Courthouse, is set up and ready to roll. There’s plenty of great weather ahead of us this fall and no better way to experience it than on a bike cruising through the latest updates to Osceola’s local trail network. The updates to the reservation system will make it possible for activity-conscious users to set up their own accounts and reserve the bikes through a convenient mobile app – on iPhone or Android devices.

Clarke County Iowa Osceola Bike Share Program

“We worked hard with the app developers to make sure the bike reservation system was easy to use and could be seamlessly integrated into our systems.” said Stephanie Shields from Clarke County Public Health. “We’re excited to see them out on the trails and in the community.”

The bike rentals are done on a first-come first-served basis and can be reserved through the app right from the palm of your hand. You can reserve for a same-day rental or schedule a ride for later and pick up the bike(s) at the appropriate time.

Using the app simply requires users to set up an account and enter their debit or credit card information to activate. Primary users must be adults (18 or over). Up to two bikes can be reserved on each account. Individual users must have the app downloaded and check out their bikes by signing the waiver within the app. Due to the bike size, the Clarke County Health Department encourages use by those 18 years or older. And, of course, wearing biking helmets are encouraged. If a helmet is needed you can even reach out to CCHD to see if they have any available. Supply is limited, but they will do their best to accommodate anyone looking to stay safe.

A single reservation will allow the use of the bike throughout the city for up to 12 hours. Bikes are required to be returned within that time period to avoid any late fees (late fees are $20/hour for every hour after the original 12 reserved). If users would like to reserve them for longer, they can reach out to the Clarke County Health Department to coordinate scheduling.

This bike program was made possible through donations from local businesses like Clarke County State Bank as well as grants made possible through Wellmark and the Clarke County Development Corporation.

“This is a great addition to the quality of life for Osceola and Clarke County,” said Bill Trickey, Clarke County Development Corporation Executive Director. “Programs similar to this have been well-received in Des Moines and the Metro area and we can’t wait to see it being used here.”

With trail updates happening this fall, riders will be able to cruise from East Lake Park to Clarke High School, throughout the city enjoying the best Osceola has to offer.
