Southwestern Community College (SWCC) is expanding the technical training opportunities available at its Osceola Center with the addition of a new hands-on Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), commonly known as MIG welding, course beginning throughout October.

The new 32-hour course is designed to provide practical, hands-on training in MIG welding techniques commonly used in manufacturing, fabrication, maintenance and repair industries. The addition further strengthens the welding training already available at the SWCC Osceola Center and provides individuals in Clarke County and the surrounding area with another opportunity to develop skills that can be applied directly in the workplace.
“This is another important step in the growth of the technical training opportunities available right here in Clarke County,” said Andrew Clark, Executive Director of the Clarke County Development Corporation. “The continued expansion of programming at the Osceola Center is a great example of how forward-thinking education, workforce development and local industry needs can come together to meet the demand for our future.”
The course is intended for a wide range of participants, including individuals interested in beginning a career in welding, manufacturing and maintenance employees, farmers and agricultural operators, hobbyists and DIY enthusiasts, and anyone interested in developing or enhancing their welding skills.
Participants will receive hands-on instruction in a laboratory setting from an experienced welding instructor. The small-class environment is designed to provide individualized instruction while allowing students to develop practical skills and techniques that employers value.
The course will meet Mondays and Wednesdays throughout October from 4 to 8 p.m. Participants must attend all sessions. The cost of the course is $1,500.
Training will take place in the SWCC Osceola Center Welding Lab, located at 2520 College Drive in Osceola.
The addition of MIG welding instruction continues the evolution of the Osceola Center as a regional resource for workforce training and skill development. Along with serving individuals pursuing new career opportunities, the facility provides local workers and employers with opportunities to strengthen existing skills without having to travel outside the community for training.
