The Osceola Fire Department received notification that they are cleared by the Iowa Department of Public Health Bureau of Emergency and Trauma Services to operate a basic life support ambulance.osceola ambulance

The Fire Department ambulance will run as a backup and support to Clarke County Ambulance Offering additional assistance when needed. Including but not limited to: Assisting on vehicle accidents, special event standby, assistance on complex medical calls, and assist with multiple calls.

The endeavor was a nearly 9-month process of planning, regulatory process, equipment acquisition, and training. Both the Members of the Osceola Fire Department and Administration of Clarke County Hospital made this possible.

“Hard work and countless hours by many individuals have made a long process produce a quality product” Byron Jimmerson, Osceola Fire Chief.

This process has been successful and very cost effective. The ambulance used was donated several years ago by the Clarke County Hospital. It has been converted back to an ambulance use with the assistance of the Hospital by donating a patient cot. A grant was obtained to purchase a zoll heart monitor/AED. Many supplies were donated from The Grand River Fire Department EMS folks. Mike at Cross Ministries has assisted in procuring several items at no cost to the department. Assistance from both Hospital Administration and City of Osceola Leadership has proved very valuable. Thank you to everyone involved.

Our goal is to continue to assist the citizens of our Fire District an support all of our partners throughout the County.
